THEATRE PROGRAM

WELCOME TO THE THEATRE PROGRAM AT UTAH TECH UNIVERSITY!

Students have opportunities to study theatre, dance, and digital film in the classroom and through theatrical productions, dance productions, and professional film production work. Students are equipped to find work as creative, highly effective communicators across a wide array of careers in theatre, dance, or digital film. Graduates have gone on to careers in the theatre as theatre techs, actors, theatre educators, and directors. Others have gone on to careers with dance companies, built dance studios, or careers in theatre specializing in dance. Others have gone on to careers in the film industry as production techs or post-production specialists.

COLLABORATION, RESPECT, CREATIVITY. WE TEACH THEATRE.

This will be realized by combining comprehensive theatrical training with a strong liberal arts curriculum. Using this knowledge and experience, students will exit the program being able to integrate their knowledge and ongoing research with their insights into the human condition. This mission is available to and provided for any and all UT students, regardless of major.
No theatrical performance can be complete without an audience. Through its production season, this program will give the theatre student a range of design and performance opportunities. It will provide the general student body with historically and culturally diverse experiences which will broaden their educational experience and it will provide a rich array of theatrical performances for the growth, entertainment and intellectual stimulation of the community at large.

GOALS:

FOR THE THEATRE PROGRAM:
Produce well rounded artist/scholars
Enhance the cultural and intellectual life of our campus and community
Provide service to our institution, community and profession.
Support and encourage the growth and development of our faculty and staff
Develop a regionally prominent liberal arts theatre training program.
Assist the alumni, and facilitate communication between generations of UT Theatre graduates.

FOR OUR STUDENTS:
Be familiar with dramatic repertory
Know major eras of Theatre History and the associated artists, playwrights and styles
Be able to self-assess efforts
Exhibit ability to conduct research.
Exhibit ability to create and manage theatre.
To develop a significant level of skill in their emphasis area.

FOR OUR PRODUCTIONS:
Provide students with a range of production opportunities of varying genres, styles and historical periods.
Provide the UT campus community with productions that enhance the student’s educational, intellectual, cultural and emotional understanding and development.
Provide our service area with a variety of productions that enhance and expand their cultural lives.
Foster to production of new works.

Utah Tech University Theatre is a comprehensive college theatre program with an active production program in support of academic activities. The program is structured to meet the following main objectives:

At the successful conclusion of this program, students will be able to:

Correlate knowledge of theatre history with different cultures, points of view and social systems through the analysis of contemporary approaches to theatre.
Create thoughtful, systematic processes in artistic work.
Collaborate within the production process as a team member.
Analyze dramatic literature in order to understand and communicate the needs of a production.
Formulate a plan for next steps in individual career development.
