| The BSN program is a completer program for REGISTERED NURSES
The Dixie State College of Utah Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program is part of the Department of Health Sciences, located in the Taylor Health Science Building. This program is designed to provide Registered Nurses education and skills in community nursing, leadership, nursing management, health assessment, research and information technology. The graduate will gain skills and concepts necessary to advance in their careers, enter mid level management positions, and pursue graduate education leading to occupations as nurse practitioners, nurse educators, or nurse administrators. Graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science degree.
Student Learning Outcomes - BSN Program
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program requires a minimum of 52 credit hours of coursework. The following two prerequisite courses must be completed before specific nursing classes (see course descriptions. They may be taken concurrently with nursing classes):
- BIOL 4400 Pathophysiology - 3 Credits
- MATH 1040 Intro to Statistics - 3 Credits -- OR -- STAT 2040 Business Statistics - 4 Credits

Students with an Associate of Science/Arts or Bachelor of Science/Arts degree will have fulfilled these general education requirements.
Students with an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing may be required to complete additional general education requirements.

| Applicants will be admitted into the BSN program without discrimination as to age, sex, creed, ethnic origin, or marital status and must be able to demonstrate physical abilities sufficient to pass each nursing course. Admission to Dixie State College of Utah is also required.
The BSN program is designed to be completed in 21 months and starts each fall semester. Students may use spring and/or summer semesters prior to admission for completion of co-requisite courses.
Due date for Fall admission: June 15th
Applications may be accepted past the due date if class has not been filled.
Applicants will be notified by email of their admission status.
BSN Application
Requirements for admission will include:
- Graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse Associate Degree Program
- Current RN licensure (New graduates may register for first semester classes but must obtain licensure before registering for classes the second semester.)
- Nursing courses must be completed with at least a "C" grade (2.0 GPA), and with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7.
- Applicant may be evaluated on overall GPA, nursing course GPA and co-requisite GPA. Also, there is a program essay required.
- Applicant must submit three professional or educational recommendation forms. (Included with application packet.)
BSN courses may be taken part-time or full-time. Nursing courses must be completed within five years to apply toward the BSN degree.
- Registered Nurse Licensure
- Applicants must provide a copy of current RN license, or a letter documenting the approximate planned RN-NCLEX testing date. Accepted applicants must be licensed before the start of the BSN program.
- Program Essay (Information is included in application packet.)
- Because the BSN program is writing intensive, applicants are required to submit an essay to demonstrate their writing abilities. Essays will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Following instructions and legible writing
- Logical, concise essay, demonstrating command of the English language
- Proper grammar and spelling
- Appropriateness of content
- Personal References
- Applicant must submit three letters of recommendation (forms are included in the application packet) from current or previous nursing supervisor(s), or nursing instructors who have observed the applicant's past performance.
Due to limited positions, some eligible applicants may not be accepted into the program. They may reapply to be considered for future admission.

Students who have been accepted into the BSN program will be required to meet and maintain certain health and safety standards. Specific details regarding these requirements will be given to students after they are accepted.
Test Out Policy - This applies only to the clinical portion of Nursing Leadership and Management,NURS 4041 or Community Health Nursing, NURS 4025.
